Marijan Kockovic (1923- 1991),
world renowned artist

Marijan Kockovic was born in Zagreb , Croatia in 1923, where he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Professor Kršinic and Antunac and graduated in 1952 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana under Professor Putrih.

From 1953 till 1966 he lived and worked in Sarajevo as a Professor of Sculpture and History of Art and as an independent artist. Since 1966 he lived in Dubrovnik where he worked as a freelance artist till his death.

In 1972 he taught sculpture during summer school term conducted by the Hope College from Michigan , USA , in his Art Studio in Dubrovnik .

In 1974 starts to write poetry with great success. He published three collections of his poems.

From 1970 on, regularly spends a number of months yearly in USA where he earned himself numerous friends and admirers of his art.

Exhibited in more then 100 art presentations all over the world: Canada , USA , European countries, Russia , Japan and all ex Yugoslavian Republics , during 45 years period. He originated more then 300 portraits in marble and bronze, over 350 sculptures in bronze, stone, wood and copper and also 250 tapestries. His sculptural and tapestry creations have decorated the interiors of many public buldings, hotels and banks the world all over ; among the others : the sears towers in chicago, trelawny hotel on jamaica, storck factory in germany and many others, including the ones in his native country.

He won many awards and recognitions for art. One of his greatest awards was title for Academician of Italy, with Gold Medal, for top achievements in the field of art.
